The Newfoundland and Labrador Independent Police Supervisor says he has arrested an RCMP officer in Corner Brook following an investigation initiated by the same police force.

Mike King, executive director of the Serious Incident Response Team, Newfoundland and Labrador (SIRT-NL), wrote in a press release Monday afternoon that the officer was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized use of a computer and breach of trust.

The statement says that as the investigation is ongoing, SIRT-NL cannot provide further information at this time.

“An update will be provided when needed,” the statement said.

The SIRT-NL was created to conduct investigations into police incidents of death, serious injury, sexual offenses, domestic violence and any other matter of significant public interest.

The group will only publish the name of a subject officer if a position is filed.
