Politics “Bulls ***”: Justin Langer clash with cricket boss after resignation

Justin Langer has revealed when he clashed with the interim president of Cricket Australia following his widely publicized resignation.

Former Australian cricket coach Justin Langer has revealed the moment he faced Cricket Australia interim president Richard Freudenstein following his much-publicized resignation.

In February, the 51-year-old resigned as the men’s national coach after rejecting a six-month contract extension, in hopes of being offered a multi-year contract.

Langer’s contract was scheduled to expire in June, but the writing was on the wall after a rupture in his relationship with senior players, who had been worn out by his dominant style and intense attitude.

Several Australian cricket icons jumped on Langer’s defense, questioning how a national coach could win a T20 World Cup title and a series of Ashes before giving him essentially no choice but to resign.

Speaking at a WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry event in Perth on Wednesday, Langer detailed a heated conversation with Freudenstein the day after his resignation.

“The first thing he said to me was,‘ It has to make you feel so good that all your teammates support you in the media, ’” Langer began.

“I said, ‘Yes, he’s the incumbent president, but with all due respect, these teammates are also the greatest of all time in Australian cricket. They are the fabric of Australian cricket. They are Australian cricket. They also work cricket all over the world. So yeah, I’m glad my teammates take care of me. Imagine if you had.

“Ironically, the last six months of my coaching career were the most enjoyable period of my 12 years as a coach.

“Not only did we win everything, but he also had energy, had concentration and was happy, in addition to the bullfighting policy ***.”

CA confirmed last month that Andrew McDonald, who was acting as interim coach after Langer’s resignation, had been named the new men’s national coach.

The 40-year-old joined the Australian technical team in 2019 after being in charge of Victoria and the Melbourne Renegades.

McDonald mentored Australia during the recent tour of Pakistan, the first victory in the team’s test series in Asia since 2011.

“The trip so far has been especially enjoyable, and I am honored to receive this amazing opportunity for what is expected to be an exciting period,” McDonald said.

“The success of the World Cup, the Ashes series and now Pakistan has been a testament to the hard work and leadership of Justin, Pat (Cummins) and Aaron (Finch) along with the players and support staff.

“My plan is to build on the team’s growth, depth and experience as I work collectively with the group and throughout the game. There are many short-term challenges that I know will excite the leadership group, the players and the squad “.

Australian Test captain Pat Cummins was reluctant to support Langer as coach last summer, but the bowling alley was full of praise for McDonald’s after the historic World Cup victory. 1-0 series in Pakistan.

“It’s been fantastic, which is not unexpected,” Cummins said in March.

“He’s a great operator. The guys absolutely love him. He’s very diligent, very thorough and strategic and organized. He’s a big part of winning this tour. It’s not my place to hire the coach, but ‘ Ronnie ‘has been fantastic. “

Australia will embark on a multi-format tour of Sri Lanka next month.
