Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Box Art Brawl!
In last week’s edition, we took a look at Resident Evil: Gaiden for Game Boy Color. In fact, it was also a pretty close call, but most of you, good people, preferred the simplicity of EU box art, with the blood-soaked life ring taking center stage.
Now, in case you missed it, the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis app for Nintendo Switch Online has won four additional games this week. One of these was the classic run and shoot Target Earth from Masaya Publishing. We took a look at the American and Japanese boxing arts for this game and knew right away that it should be the next focus of Box Art Brawl!

So let’s clarify something before we continue … Target Earth is known as Assault Suit Leynos in Japan, but it came with a drastic name change for its American release. That said, how fantastic is the logo of this box art ?! It’s very hard and smart, but it works, you know? The real star of the show, however, is the artwork itself. The composition is wonderful and the character design is excellent – we love this one!

The Japanese painting of Assault Suit Leynos / Target Earth is much more restricted and, well … “artistic”, we suppose. The logo is, again, absolutely fantastic here, but for a completely different reason; it is elegant and clean, and works well within the overall composition. Meanwhile, the artwork is made by experts and would look absolutely beautiful hanging on a wall.
