Apple will reveal details of software updates coming to its phones, tablets and computers at the company’s annual World Developers Conference (WWDC).
But while new computers, an expanded messaging app and a revision of the iPad software to make it more like a laptop are on the cards, the biggest question on Monday is whether Apple will show any proof of its next augmented reality, or AR – glasses.
The company has registered RealityOS as an operating system for headphones, which has been rumored for years but is expected to be revealed sometime in 2022. Little is known and much is speculated about the device: rumors suggest the appearance of a ski mask, with screens on the front and inside of the headphones to try to limit the feeling of isolation that these headphones can provide.
Augmented reality features have been a regular presence at WWDC in recent years: first-class iPhones and iPads now have Lidar sensors, which use radar-like technology to trace space in 3D, and which combine with a set of software options that allow developers to create simple AR-based applications.
A new wave of RA features, even if not explicitly linked to a new headset, would ensure that developers were ready to create applications that could be easily converted to the new RealityOS without a significant amount of extra work, helping to avoid capture. -22 that plagues new platforms: no one buys an expensive device until they have no useful apps, which means no one develops useful apps because there are no customers for them.
Similarly, WWDC is expected to show some of the fruits of Apple’s own work on RealityOS coming to other platforms. A new version of Apple Maps, for example, could take advantage of the handset and allow users to explore a virtual version of the world through their iPhone.

But not all ads are expected to be linked to augmented reality. The company is likely to show an updated version of its MacBook Air laptops, albeit with supply chain issues that make it difficult to purchase soon, and will release an updated version of iPadOS that makes it easier to use tablets like to a complete. replacement of the broken laptop.
IOS 16 updates will include a new version of the Messages app, new features in the Health app, and a revision of the iPhone notification system.
