Daniel Ricciardo was the victim of the iconic pool chicane in Monaco in another disastrous turn of his stuttering season with McLaren.
Ricciardo’s papaya ball was wrinkled, but the Australian came out unscathed from the nasty derivation, which occurred on his first correct lap of the second training session and ruled him out of the entire session. .
“It simply came to our notice then. I think if someone crashes there, it is usually seen at the exit if maybe it takes too much curb at turn 14 and then loses the car. But I already started losing the car almost before turn 13, ”Ricciardo said.
“We’ve gone a little too far probably in a couple of areas with the setup. We’ve had a good day and obviously try a few things for FP2 to try to maximize performance a little more, but let’s say we’ve outperformed it and not you know until you try it.

“It was obviously my first time around, so I couldn’t read much of it.
“I did my best to save him, but I couldn’t. We obviously missed the whole session, but I’m fine.
“Anyway, we’ll have another chance tomorrow and I’m sure they’ll fix the car tonight and put it in a good place for tomorrow.”

Charles Leclerc completed a convincing ‘double top’ at the Monaco Grand Prix at home on Friday, finishing the second fastest training ahead of his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz.
The 24-year-old Monegasque driver, who was also the fastest in the opening session, made a better lap in one minute and 12.656 seconds to overtake the Spaniard in just 0.044 seconds, leaving the two Red Bulls of Sergio Pérez and the world champion Max Verstappen. third and fourth, more than three-tenths adrift.
Lando Norris, still battling tonsillitis, was fifth for McLaren ahead of George Russell of Mercedes and Pierre Gasly, an impressive seventh for the Alpha Tauri team on a very warm afternoon in the Mediterranean principality.
Double champion Fernando Alonso was eighth for Alpine ahead of four-time Aston Martin and Yuki Tsunoda four-time champion Sebastian Vettel in the second Alpha Tauri.
This left a disgruntled Lewis Hamilton in 12th place, behind Kevin Magnussen’s Haas, with the second Mercedes, the seven-time champion struggling with the continuous rebound while looking for a comfortable and fast setup.

The session was interrupted once by a red flag when Daniel Ricciardo crashed into the pool complex, escaping unharmed from his damaged McLaren.
After beating the times in the first session, Leclerc quickly picked up the pace with his Ferrari, running hard tires, as he sought to become the first Monegasque to score points at home since Louis Chiron finished third in 1950. and regain the lead in this year’s drivers ’championship.
After his third consecutive victory in Spain last Sunday, the Dutchman Verstappen leads with 110 points, six ahead of Leclerc.
In a fast-paced competition between them, the Red Bulls and Ferraris were two tenths of a second behind each other, while Russell and the rest chased each other, Mercedes still looking for a successful setup.
– Mercedes “unmanageable” –
In early training, Hamilton had complained about the continued serious rebounds described by team leader Toto Wolff as making his car “unmanageable”.
He explained that it was not the same “porpoise” that had been seen earlier this year, but a height problem.
“Sometimes it’s a combination of aerodynamics and stiffness, but that’s only due to the stiffness,” he said, adding that Hamilton had asked for an elbow pad for the second session.
“We will try to make it more enjoyable for them, but we want a fast car,” he said. “If it’s fast, we’ll give you all the compresses you need.”
Ricciardo provided another example of the rugged challenge the riders faced after 14 minutes when he lost control of his McLaren and hit the barriers of the “pool” complex.
He was not injured, but his car suffered serious frontal damage, which ended his involvement. There was a seven-minute delay for the second red flag of the day before Valtteri Bottas, back in action after previous problems with the gearbox, returned to lead the field with his Alfa Romeo.

The break offered everyone a chance to breathe and relax in the heat, with an air temperature of 30 degrees and the track at 53, before returning to an intense scrap “sorting test”.
Leclerc continued to look dominant, trimming his lap to 1: 12.656, three-tenths of an improved Pérez before Sainz returned to second, two-tenths of the pace.
At this point, with 20 minutes to go, Ferrari was at the forefront of the Red Bull challenge, while others faced off and escaped.
Russell cut barriers at Tabac, Norris did the same at Ste Devote, and Hamilton shut himself in at Mirabeau – three British sliding in the heat before moving on to longer, high-fueled operations.
Leclerc stood out for his absence with 12 minutes to go, but returned for the six to complete a solid day’s work of the ‘Scarlet Scuderia’ which ended with a strong one-two.
