Sadiq Khan asks Met to explain why Boris Johnson escaped the second-half fine

Sadiq Khan has intensified his dispute with the Metropolitan Police by demanding that the commissioner explain why Boris Johnson was not fined for attending an illegal party.

Khan wrote to Sir Stephen House, the acting commissioner, asking for information on the Met’s approach to investigating Downing Street parties. The force had today rejected its request for transparency.

The mayor wants House to inform him in detail of the decisions of Operation Hillman about the people and the reason for how the fines were issued. He said the Met should make public more information and reassure Londoners, and warned that confidence and confidence in the police were being “further torn apart by this lack of clarity”.
