The husband of a heroic teacher who was killed in a shooting at a Texas school this week has reportedly died of a heart attack. The shooting at Robb d’Uvalde Elementary School claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers on Tuesday (May 24).
Professor Irma Garcia was one of the victims who was shot dead by 18-year-old Salvador Ramos. Her husband, Joe Garcia, has now suffered a fatal heart attack, MirrorOnline reports.
The couple were beloved in high school and had been married for 24 years. They had four children.
In a GoFundMe shared online by Garcia’s family cousin Debra Garcia Austin, she wrote that Joe died Thursday morning “as a result of a medical emergency.” “I really think Joe died with a broken heart and losing the love of his life for over 30 years was too much to bear,” he wrote.

Writing on Facebook, one of Irma’s nephews wrote after the shooting: “He sacrificed himself by protecting the children in his classroom. I ask you to keep my family, including his whole family, in the prayers of all of you. IRMA GARCIA IT’S HIS NAME and she died as a HERO, many loved her and we will really miss her. “
Irma, 46, and her partner Eva Mireles, 44, were killed by Ramos along with 19 children before the teen was shot dead by police.
The Texas shooting is the deadliest in a U.S. elementary school since the famous Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, in which 20 children and six adults died nearly a decade ago.
