Part of the A14 near Suffolk’s border with Cambridgeshire has become uneven after choking temperatures continue.
The stretch has become uneven near Newmarket, and officers are urging drivers to be careful when approaching the stretch of road.
A section of the A14 between Swaffham Bulbeck and Stow cum Quy was closed overnight to allow emergency repairs to be made.
The first red weather warning in history is in effect west of Suffolk with temperatures expected to reach 40ºC today.
In a tweet, Cambridgeshire police said: “No, the A14 is not becoming a skatepark … unfortunately the road surface is not adapting well to this heat.
“Roads are assessing the surface of the A14 heading west on Bottisham and advising people to approach with caution.”
It comes after the A140 closed last month because the road became unsafe for motorists in hot weather.
