A dermatologist has stated that you only need three products to take care of your skin, and says it doesn’t make sense to spend a lot of money on moisturizer.

London-based Natalia Spierings appeared on ITV’s Lorraine before the release of her new book Skintelligent: What You Really Need to Know About Great Skin.

The beauty expert said you don’t have to spend a lot of money on skin care because when you look at the ingredients in different products, they tend to be made of “all the same things”.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, Ms Spierings said there are only three products you need to take care of your skin, and that they should not break the bank.

Ms. Spierings blamed “the great marketing machine for skin care” for the amount we spend on products.

He said that “it makes us believe that to have beautiful and healthy skin we need to have all these products and serums.”

Instead of buying many different products and breaking the bank, Ms. Spierings recommended three key products for everyone to take care of their skin: a cleanser, an SPF, and a moisturizer.

In particular, he recommended an “oil-based cleanser” because it doesn’t inflame other skin conditions and can remove most other products well.

Ms. Spierings also recommended a “resistant moisturizer” like Vaseline, which she advised to apply at night.

She said, “It’s a big myth that Vaseline clogs your skin. We know that’s not true from good clinical trials and testing.”

He added that some tests have suggested that it can actually soothe acne.

One of Mrs. Spierings ’best tips is to wear SPF every day, even in winter.

She said, “UV light is always there.”

Speaking of the huge range of skin care products and moisturizers available, Ms. Spierings said you only need a moisturizer for everything because many products contain the same ingredients.

“I think eye cream is one of the biggest scams in the world of skin care.”

He added that you could only use Vaseline around the eyes at night, instead of spending money on a separate eye cream.

Although he said that for many people skin care is “a hobby” that makes them invest in expensive products, he advised people with specific skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea to “reduce” the products they use.

Aside from the products people use on their skin, Ms Spierings said the main things people can do to fight aging are stay out of the sun and not smoke.

He added that the evidence-based product that is known to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles is tretinoin cream.

Tretinoin is a prescription drug that “works incredibly well” and can be purchased through online dermatology services.
