Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara admits he would be “gutted” if North London rivals Arsenal beat their former club with the signing of striker Gabriel Jesus.
The Gunners are chasing the signing of a striker after allowing both Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to leave with free transfers for the past six months.
Arsenal have linked talented striker Eddie Nketiah to a new deal. However, there is a need to bring a more experienced leader and Jesus of Manchester City fits the bill.
Alvaro Morata, Gianluca Scamacca and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been linked with a change of Emirates. But it is a deal for Jesus that seems more likely for Mikel Arteta’s men.
The 25-year-old Brazilian international will play for us this summer after City signed a double striker.
Pep Guardiola has added prolific Dortmund striker Erling Haaland and Argentine Julian Alvarez to his squad for next season.
That leaves Jesus out of the cold, and Arsenal want to take advantage of a £ 50m deal.
The Daily Star reports that while Tottenham are also interested in the player, Jesus prefers a move to the red half of north London.
The Star claims that Jesus feels he will fight for playing time with Antonio Conte. That won’t be, though, if he joins the Gunners.
Jesus gave an inclination to take Arsenal to a new level
And O’Hara believes Arsenal will receive a real steal if they reach an agreement.
He told Sky Sports: “If Arsenal get it, they would be absolutely devastated. Because this is a player who would take them 100% to a new level.
“Their attacking strength hasn’t been good enough lately and Jesus would be a great signing for them. I hope he falls on his face and doesn’t finish.”
Everton striker Richarlison has also been on Tottenham’s radar. However, it seems unlikely that Daniel Levy will invest more than £ 40 million in a backup for Harry Kane.
