Last year, a game was released on the Nintendo Switch in Japan called Crayon Shin-chan: Ora to Hakase no Natsuyasumi (Crayon Shin-chan: My Summer Vacation With The Professor). A cross between the legendary manga Crayon Shin-chan and the long series of video games My Summer Vacation, it seemed slow and crunchy and relaxed and everything you’d want from a game with an emphasis on, well, a summer vacation.
Here is the 2021 trailer for the Japanese release:
Sounds beautiful, doesn’t it? Kazu Ayabe, director of the main series, was also in charge of this game, and the addition of more contemporary visuals — the first game was on the PS1 and the most recent on the PSP — only made that things look even prettier. Like all the other games in the main My Summer Vacation series, we all assumed this would be a release only for Japan, but it turns out we were all wrong in the best way possible.

It was announced today that Crayon Shin-chan: Ora to Hakase no Natsuyasumi will not only hit PlayStation 4, but is also being translated into a number of Western languages, which obviously include English, but also German, Spanish and Portuguese. well.
If you’re wondering how these games work, it’s about playing during a child’s summer vacation. You walk through a sleeping city, talk to people, play some mini-games, and usually hang out. As the game’s new English website says:
Enjoy the feel of Japan in the middle of summer. Wander under the open sky and hear the sound of cicadas sounding in the mountains and the soft babbling of streams as they meander through the vegetation. It’s an experience that will immediately make you feel nostalgic for Japanese summer.
The international release of Crayon Shin-chan: Ora to Hakase no Natsuyasumi will be released in August on both PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
