Toronto City Council says it is canceling a Canada Day fireworks show and rescheduling another after the vendor withdrew at the last minute.
The city says the vendor initially hired to host the fireworks shows at three parks on Thursday informed city staff he would not go ahead with production.
As a result, the city says the fireworks show at Milliken Park in northeast Toronto has been canceled.
City spokesman Brad Ross told CBC News that the city last used the vendor for Victory Day fireworks in Ashbridges Bay and that the vendor said last week the city still did not. had paid the bill for this exhibition.
“We do our best to pay our bills within 30 days, so we immediately sent you yesterday’s money for these services: $ 31,000,” Ross said. Still, the seller chose not to go ahead with Canada Day plans, he added.
City attorneys are now involved and will seek a solution to what Ross called a “breach of contract.”
“The good thing is that we were able to find another provider that increased,” Ross said, adding that staff worked day and night Thursday contacting companies in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and the United States for try to find a new supplier. .
Since then, the city has found a new vendor for Ashbridges Bay Park tonight, he said. The same vendor will host a fireworks show at Stan Wadlow Park in the far east of the city on Saturday evening.
The fireworks in Mel Lastman Square and Downsview Park will also take place tonight as planned.
