The collision takes 1 life

Golden RCMP and BC Highway Patrol are investigating a collision near Golden between a logging truck and an SUV that claimed the life of one driver and sent the other to the hospital by air ambulance.
The collision occurred shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 1 near Emerald Lake Rd. in Field, about 45 miles west of Golden, BC
Initial evidence gathered at the scene indicates that the driver of the SUV was traveling east when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a wooden truck coming from the opposite direction.
The driver of the wooden truck was taken to hospital with injuries that did not endanger his life, the driver of the SUV died at the scene.
“Investigators have determined that there was no crime,” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé, spokesman for the RCMP of BC.
Highway 1 is now open after being closed for just over five hours on Wednesday morning.

TransCanada Highway is closed in both directions due to a vehicle incident between Golden Donald Upper Rd. and the Visitor Access Camp, 53.5 km.
An evaluation is underway but there is no estimated reopening time. The only detour available is on Highway 95 for Radium.
The next scheduled update is not until 10:30 p.m.
