Toronto Pearson Airport warns of delays this weekend due to training exercise

Toronto Pearson Airport warns passengers and Mississauga residents of possible delays this weekend while the airport conducts a training exercise.

According to a statement issued on Friday, the exercise will take place on May 28 between 8 am and 2 pm. During this time, approximately 300 volunteers will take on the role of protesters in an “emergency exercise” drill.

Exercise is a requirement of Transport Canada, the airport said, and is “an important way to test the airport’s emergency response.”

The airport emphasizes that this is a planned exercise and that there is no reason to worry. However, they do warn of possible traffic jams in the Convair Drive and Electra Road area of Mississauga.

We will do an emergency exercise tomorrow and you may notice unusual activity at the airport. Since this is just an exercise, you don’t have to worry, but if you’re in the Convair Drive area, beware of possible traffic delays: pic.twitter.com/XFeAwGAJkQ

From late April to May, Pearson has experienced a number of delays for both arrivals and departures. The airport has attributed the delays to staffing problems.

Earlier this month, Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) Chief Operating Officer Craig Bradbrook told CP24 that the delays could become “unsustainable” as we move into the summer season. , as the authority expects to see approximately 45,000 international arrivals a day. during this time.
