Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have registered an interest in AS Roma defender Roger Ibáñez, who could be sold for 30 million euros this summer.
According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are interested in securing the services of AS Roma’s Brazilian defender Roger Ibáñez, who could be sold this summer.
Ibanez spent the formative years of his career in Brazil before moving to Europe in January 2019 when he joined Atalanta from Fluminense. A year later, the 23-year-old signed for AS Roma with an eighteen-month loan deal, and the transfer was made permanent in last year’s summer window.
Ibáñez has been a regular in the Giallorossi line-up and has played 51 times in all competitions, helping Jose Mourinho’s team to win the UEFA Europa Conference League. Although it has signed a contract until the summer of 2025, Roma is open for sale this summer if an offer of 30 million euros arrives.
And Ibanez is now arousing interest in the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United monitoring his situation at the Olympic Stadium.

It’s no secret that Tottenham coach Antonio Conte is looking for defensive reinforcements this summer, with Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni as a priority. The Lilywhites are ready to offer 30 million euros more Davinson Sánchez to sign the Italian in the summer to add a high-quality left-back to his squad.
However, as Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon are likely to leave and Sanchez’s future is also uncertain, another signing for Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be needed to ensure a quality depth in the squad. Ibáñez, in this sense, can be a useful acquisition since he has already accumulated a lot of experience at the highest level and is only 23 years old.
Newcastle United are also interested in Ibanez, as coach Eddie Howe is looking to add more quality to his defensive squad. The Magpies, having survived the threat of relegation, are planning some major moves in the summer market and strengthening the defense remains a key issue, with marginal players such as Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez wait for them to leave.
Newcastle United have been seen to be associated with a large number of defenders, including Sven Botman, who remains a key target for the Tynesiders. But with him close to joining AC Milan, it is good that Newcastle have identified alternative options, and Roger Ibáñez could be one of those Plan B for the club, along with Merih Demiral.
The price of € 30 million is unlikely to be a problem for Tottenham or Newcastle. The only question left is whether the interest of the two Premier League clubs is concrete enough for them to launch an offer for the Brazilian.
