Trial jury Kian Tordoff convicts 17-year-old of murder

A 17-year-old man has been found guilty of the murder of Kian Tordoff, 19, while his brother and friend were convicted of the teen’s involuntary manslaughter.

Six men were tried for the murder of the young man and the attempted murder of Matthew Page, known as Matthew Lowther, on the morning of October 10 last year on John Street in Bradford Crown Court.

Sheryar Khan, 17, of Yew Tree Avenue has been found guilty of murder this afternoon, when the fifth day of jury deliberations came to an end.

He was also found guilty of the wound with the intent of Mr. Lowther.

Judge Mansell ruled that the teen’s identity could be released after the Telegraph & Argus filed a petition in court asking for the order banning his name from being lifted.

He said: “Unfortunately, cases like this in which young men take up arms to take revenge or take the law into their own hands are not uncommon.

“Also the type of knives commonly used to cause injury in these incidents are hunting knives or machetes.

“I consider it very important that the press not only be able to fully report on this case, but also identify the perpetrator of the murder of an innocent young man and the near-fatal stabbing of a second.

“Courts need to send a clear message of deterrence when crimes like this are committed, especially young people and their perpetrators.”

Arbaz Khan, 22, of Yew Tree Avenue, Sheryar’s older brother, and Mohammed Adil Hussain, 18, of Kite Mews, Lower Grange, Arbaz’s friend, were both found guilty of manslaughter. Mr. Tordoff and guilty of Mr. Lowther’s unlawful wounds. .

Aizaz Khan, 27, of Yew Tree Avenue, Sheryar and Arbaz’s older brother, Amaad Shakiel, 20, of Leaventhorpe Lane, and Adam Qayum, 23, of Avenel Road, Allerton, were acquitted of murder and attempted murder.

Mr. Tordoff was stabbed six times by Sheryar Kahn, who was 16 at the time and with a knife and machete.

The creepy images seen throughout the trial showed that Mr. Tordoff was being chased for a few seconds, before he stumbled and the teenager seized him.

Tordoff managed to get up, but then collapsed in front of The Silver Fox Bar, where Lowther was also cut in the stomach and stabbed in the upper right chest by the 17-year-old.

Three young women tried to help Mr. Tordoff, who was bleeding from his neck and back.

He told them “tell my mom I love her” as she died in her arms. He was officially pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.

The pathologist, Dr. Kirsten Hope, said an 11-cm-deep stab in Mr. Tordoff’s upper left back was the cause of death.

He also suffered a stab wound to the neck, in front of the torso, to the left hip and a zig-zag stab wound to the right hand, through which he passed a knife, which indicated that he was protecting himself.

The fateful events of the night began around 5:15 a.m., when a large-scale street brawl broke out in Westgate, at the top of Sackville Street, shortly after large groups left nightclubs and bars in the area while they closed.

Arbaz Khan was heavily involved in this, having arrived in a white Seat Leon with Shakiel, Qayum, Hussain and the latter’s uncle, known as “Uncle P”.

He said he saw two friends, with whom he spoke from his car, but then stopped after seeing a man named Abdullah, known as “Chaser”, with whom Sheryar Khan had had problems.

The driver came out and said he approached to shake his hand, but Chaser proceeded to punch him in the face and a fight ensued, with more people involved.

Shakiel and Qayum said they were not involved in the fight and the four defendants ran to the Seat to escape as the large group surrounded them.

Mr. Tordoff had been to the Village with several friends, including Mr. Lowther, before they were both involved in the fight.

They could be seen near the white Seat Leon as he tried to leave, with Mr. Lowther kicking the car and Mr. Tordoff breaking the windshield with a bottle.

The Seat left, after deviating towards the pedestrians, and Mr. Tordoff, Mr. Lowther and his friends began walking down John Street, where they began to fight over a cardboard box.

Arbaz Khan had dropped his phone during the fight and Reanna Dacres, who was going with the group heading to John Street, picked it up and arranged with Sheryar Khan to pick it up.

Arbaz Khan, Shakiel, Qayum and Hussain returned to central Bradford in a white BMW X5, driven by Aizaz Khan and the teenager.

Aizaz Khan, Shakiel and Qayum thought they were just going to pick up the phone, although Shakiel saw two knives near Arbaz Khan as they approached the city center, and Qayum also said he only wanted an elevator. at home.

But after Mrs. Dacres handed over the phone on John Street, chaos ensued.

Witnesses who were part of the group on John Street said the BMW windows were down and heard “you think you’re very smart now” from inside.

It was then that the 17-year-old flew out of the passenger seat with two blades, while Arbaz Khan was walking close behind, armed with a machete.

Hussain – who prosecutors say was armed with a knife – and Qayum also came out, but the latter had no weapon.

Shakiel and Aizaz Khan stayed in the car initially, parking in Piccadilly, a few blocks away.

Less than 30 seconds after getting out of the vehicle, Tordoff had been stabbed to death.

The 17-year-old admitted to killing Mr Tordoff and inflicting the life-threatening wound on Mr Lowther, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter, rather than murder, for “reduced liability”.

This was due to his mental health at the time, alleging that he was hearing the voice of a London man who would make him do negative things; he said he told her to “do it, fuck, do it” moments before the stabbing.

Two psychiatrists, one for the prosecution and one for the defense, admitted that the teenager was suffering from psychosis, but the jury has ruled that this did not contribute significantly to the murder.

Judge Mansell also said, “In my view, the defendant tried to hide behind his mental disorder at this trial and was not sincere when he told psychiatrists that the voices in his head ordered him. grab a knife before leaving the house and then ordered him to stab Kian Tordoff moments before he did. ”

Sheryar Khan, Arbaz Khan and Hussain will be convicted tomorrow.

Aizaz Khan and Qayum have been released, while Shakiel has been unconditionally released on bail for other matters.
