Twitter was briefly hit by a major outage Thursday morning, with tens of thousands of users reporting problems with the social networking site, according to Down Detector.
Service outage reports seemed to start rising around 8:00 a.m. ET, according to Down Detector, which tracks Internet outages. Around 8:30 a.m., reports began to fall sharply. By 9:00 a.m., it appeared that many users had restored service.
“Some of you are having trouble accessing Twitter and we are working to make it work again for everyone,” the company tweeted at 9:10 p.m. “Thank you for following us.”
The cause of the interruption is unclear. In response to a request for comment, Twitter said it was “investigating the issue.”
The interruption occurs during a difficult period for the company. On Friday, Elon Musk decided to terminate his $ 44 billion deal to buy Twitter after weeks of raising doubts about approval of the deal. On Tuesday, Twitter’s legal team filed a lawsuit against Musk to force him to move forward with the deal.
