The two were set to fight several months earlier, but an injury to Whittaker during his training camp pushed him back to the UFC’s opening card in Paris.
Both men were cautious in the first of three rounds, with Whittaker landing some good shots.
However, Vettori appears to be struggling with his left hand and may have had a bigger impact than he thought.
Whittaker turned up the intensity in the second round with a series of cool combos.
He even made Vettori back up quickly after a vicious kick.
The third round saw Whittaker open Vettori up and continue to land several shots.
Vettori struggled to mount any offense of his own and was even taken down in the final minutes.
When asked what would happen in his post-fight interview, Whittaker reiterated that he had tunnel vision to get the belt back.
“Including the champion, I’m the most dangerous man in the division,” Whittaker said.
“I make people hate wrestling. As for what’s next, I’m always looking for that top spot.
