A fire in Hamilton caused $ 10 million in damage.
Today’s massive fire in Stoney Creek that closed roads and a power outage in parts of Hamilton caused damage of about $ 10 million, the Hamilton Fire Department (HFD) has confirmed.
The fire broke out shortly before 4pm on July 11 near Stone Church and Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway. As the HFD rushed to the scene, calls continued to arrive that triggered an upgrade to a second fire alarm.
As a result, resources from across the city rushed to the scene to help. When the first teams arrived at the scene, they found a “well-involved” massive fire in the Central Park urbanization.
Early reports from the scene said several units in different states of construction were on fire. Meanwhile, strong winds fanned the flames between 30 and 40 feet high.

The gusts pushed the fire north through the houses under construction to the occupied houses across the street. Firefighters lined the street to prevent the fire. A “large volume” of hand lines and three high ladders were needed to keep the flames contained.
The heat of hell reached such a high point that the siding melted and the windows shattered by the high temperature. As the radiant heat continued to rise the balconies of the backyards of the northern houses burned. Even the balconies in the back row began to light up.
When this new home caught fire, HFD again improved the fire to a fourth alarm. This sent about 70 firefighters to the scene is all sorts of operations.
Teams worked quickly to put out the fires on the balconies before they could enter the structure of the houses. After 30 to 45 minutes of fighting, firefighters gained control of the fire.
In all the fire destroyed 23 units under construction in different stages of completion, 12 occupied homes were damaged by heat and many more were damaged on their balconies. The fire has also affected numerous vehicles on the street.
HFD estimates the fire caused approximately $ 10 million in damage. Fortunately, there were no injuries from the fire and all residents will be able to return home tonight.
Due to the scale of the damage, the Ontario fire commissioner and Hamilton police will investigate the cause of the fire. Teams remain on site to combat the hot spots, but the roads have reopened.
