WhatsApp remains a relatively secure messaging platform. Despite established security measures, scams continue to be widespread in Meta’s proprietary messaging application. Some are due to the ingenuity of the users and to reduce this, WhatsApp is expected to increase its security by adding another layer of verification. According to a WABetainfo report, WhatsApp is testing a double-checking system. “Any attempt to successfully sign in to our WhatsApp account from another device requires an additional verification code to confirm,” the report states. How is the dual verification code expected to work? Currently, when any WhatsApp user tries to sign in to the platform, they must enter a 6-digit verification code. The WABetainfo report reveals that when the first code is successfully entered, another 6-digit code must be entered to log in to WhatsApp. Users will receive another message alerting them to a login attempt. If someone tries to sign in to a user’s account, they will know immediately and no one will be able to access it unless they know the second verification code. The feature will be useful for those who fall prey to certain scams, which take over users’ WhatsApp accounts. When is the feature expected to be deployed? As of now, the feature is still under development and there is no schedule for its availability. However, when the feature is deployed, it is expected to reach both iOS and Android. The feature will reach beta users, but as of now, there are no words. Note that there are certain features that do not go beyond the development stage. However, this is a feature that we hope will be deployed to users and will certainly improve the security of WhatsApp users.
