Who will sell the sticky buns from Kelly’s bakery?

If there’s one thing Alma Village is known for, other than Fundy National Park and Lobster, it’s Kelly’s sticky buns.

Cinnamon candy has been a staple of the coastal community for decades.

But after 27 years, the owners of Kelly’s Bake Shop, who make delicious desserts, have decided to move on.

“My husband in the summer has been working seven days a week for 27 years,” said Angela Elliot, a co-owner of the bakery.

Lathe – NB6: 33Sticky Buns for sale

Have you ever driven to Alma just for one of those famous sticky buns? Well, now the bakery – and the recipe – is on sale to the right buyer. Host Khalil Akhtar talks to current owner Angela Elliot.

“We haven’t had a free summer weekend in a long time.”

Family ties

The bakery has been in the family for two generations.

Elliot’s in-laws bought the bakery when his partner was six years old.

It was run for 17 years until it was bought by Elliot and his partner.

“Actually, we weren’t even married when we bought it,” Elliot said.

“We were 22. We were really just babies.”

But things have changed for the family.

Her 20-year-old son has decided to look for ways away from cooking, so Elliot said it made sense to let another baker take over the popular store.

And Elliot believes there are many opportunities for growth.

“Whoever takes it on will have so many options at their disposal with the opening of Fundy Trail,” Elliot said.

“We haven’t even touched the surface on catering, distribution, manufacturing. There are a lot of opportunities here and we feel now is the time.”

Includes famous recipes

While the actual bakery is included in the asking price, the actual value may only be Mrs. Kelly’s recipes.

This, of course, would include the recipe for the famous sticky buns.

The recipe has been around since the bakery opened in the 1960s.

“I only did two or three dozen a day, and when they left, that was it,” Elliot said.

“It never really became a famous article … until after my husband’s parents took over … it seemed like it was staying.”
