About five years ago, my dear colleague Kenny Farquharson, praised by him, wrote a column that some nasty souls considered memorable for all the wrong reasons. Because Kenny put forward an argument as to why, as unlikely as it may seem, Kezia Dugdale could succeed Nicola Sturgeon as Prime Minister of Scotland. According to him, she was better placed to do it than Ruth Davidson.
Wow, how people shouted! But Kenny doesn’t predict anything; he was only sketching a means by which something could happen. The logic behind his argument was not as strange as his conclusion. In this game, you can be plausible even if the events later let you look brave.
