Winnipeg students find corpse during community cleanup: Pembina Trails School Division

A Winnipeg school has incorporated a crisis response team after a group of students found a body while doing a community cleanup on Friday.

The Pembina Trails School Division has confirmed that a group of 7th and 8th graders at École South Pointe made the appalling discovery while clearing a field on the west side of Tim Sale Drive, south of Waverley Street.

The division says teachers immediately returned the children to school and called police.

“The police confirmed that what the children saw was a corpse. Police are completing their investigation, “said a letter sent to parents and provided to Global News by the school division.

“Our school social worker and psychologist have been to school today and have met with the most affected children and staff.

“They provided a space for students to talk about what they saw and felt.”

Winnipeg police confirmed that officers were at the scene on Friday, but did not indicate the nature of their investigation.

The school division said the body was not found on the school property.

The division told parents that their crisis response team will return to school on Monday.
