Your Gmail account is changing whether you like it or not

Google is starting to release a new Gmail update for millions of users. Earlier this year, the Mountain View firm launched its new look for Gmail, which not only integrated Meet and Chat services, but also brought a cool design based on Material You. At the time of its initial release in February, if you wanted to try the new look of Gmail, you’ll need to turn it on specifically to get it.

But starting this week, Gmail’s new design will automatically apply to millions of accounts worldwide.

If you’re not a fan and still want to stay the old-fashioned look, you’ll need to turn it off.

Revealing this change to Gmail, Google in a new blog post said: “Earlier this year, we introduced a new built-in view for Gmail, which makes it easy to move between critical apps like Gmail, Chat and Meet in one location. unified.

“Starting today, we’re deploying the deactivation experience to a segment of Gmail users. This means that selected users will see the new Gmail experience by default, but will still have the option to return to Gmail classic using the settings menu … As we continue to deploy this new experience, the new Gmail view will also remain available to users who want to enable it through quick settings “.

For those who hate change, the good news is that the new look of Gmail still shares a lot in common with the old design. But there are some subtle changes that help get Gmail out of the laptop screen and improve productivity.

One of the most significant changes is how the left section of the user interface looks.

Gmail users who also use Chat and Meet regularly will be able to customize the user interface to access these services more easily.

The new Gmail update also brings a new, streamlined look based on Google’s Material You design language.

This was first introduced with Android 12 and offers users the opportunity to customize color schemes for UI elements that are also transmitted to other applications, including Google and third-party applications.

Speaking about how the new Gmail layout helps users, Google said: “When enabled, the new navigation menu lets you easily switch between your inbox, important conversations, and join meetings without having to change. between tabs or opening a new window. We hope this new experience makes it easier for you to stay ahead of what’s important and get the job done faster in a single concentrated location. “
