46 New Hampshire fraternity brothers charged with hacking incident

Dozens of University of New Hampshire fraternity members have received arrest warrants in connection with a hacking incident in April, police said.

According to Durham police, the orders accuse 46 members of the beta chapter of New Hampshire of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity of student hazing.

The alleged hacking incident involved new members of the fraternity and took place at a fraternity home on April 13, authorities said.

Police did not disclose additional information about the alleged attack.

Ten of the students have already been arrested and subsequently released, WMUR reported. They are due to appear in court on July 13.

“We have been cooperating with the police throughout the investigation and the fraternity has been temporarily suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation,” UNH spokeswoman Erika Mantz said in a statement on Friday.

“We take any hacking complaint very seriously, and now that the police investigation is over, we will begin a formal conduct process.”

The fraternity also acknowledged the incident and said the alleged hacking goes against its values.

“Sigma Alpha Epsilon denounces all acts of hacking and misconduct that do not represent the values ​​of the Brotherhood defined by our creed, The True Gentleman,” Dave Pascarella, communications manager, said in a statement.

According to police, hacking is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $ 1,200 for individuals and $ 20,000 for organizations.
