Wanderers survived a late onslaught to claim a precious point on the opening day after a 1-1 draw against Ipswich at Portman Road.
Aaron Morley put the Whites in front from the penalty spot, but the home side hit back through Lee Evans before the break.
Ian Evatt gave Conor Bradley a start following his loan move to Liverpool, while Kyle Dempsey was absent from the squad after picking up a knock in training.
Wanderers started strongly and the first chance fell to Dapo Afolayan who managed to get on the end of Morley’s corner but could not keep his head.
Wes Burns then managed to get in behind the Bolton defence, but Morley was well placed to cut out his low cross.
Declan John had plenty of joy down the left flank in the early stages, joining the attack at every opportunity.
The Whites were then caught three on three at the break, but Bradley did well to slow down the attack.
And the Northern Ireland international was involved in the first big talking point of the game, winning a penalty after bringing down Leif Davis.
Morley made no mistake from the spot and beat Christian Walton low to his right with a clinical strike midway through the first half.
But Ipswich responded well to go a goal down and George Johnston had to make a vital block to deny Luke Woolfenden on the edge of the box.
The hosts managed to equalize again five minutes before the break when Evans fired over after Wanderers were caught from a Burns corner.
Bradley also made an important intervention to deny Freddie Ladapo from distance after a dangerous attack just before the break.
Early in the second half, Sam Morsy tried his luck from distance but failed to trouble James Trafford in the Bolton goal.
Whites were then almost undone by a corner identical to the equaliser, but this time Evans’ shot was blocked.
Trafford had to make a good save to keep out the midfielder’s header across goal from the resulting corner.
Wanderers then lost possession in a dangerous area, but Ladapo’s shot was easy for the England Under-21 international.
Just after the hour mark, John delivered a superb cross that narrowly eluded a pair of Bolton shirts before substitute Greg Leigh turned behind at the far post.
Leigh then volleyed home from the edge of the box after Ricardo Santos had done well initially to deflect a corner.
Evatt opted to rotate his front line heading into the closing stages, with Amadou Bakayoko, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Elias Kahcunga replacing Afolayan, Charles and Kieran Lee.
Burns’ header sent Trafford sprawling to his right after he teed up Santos, but it bounced off the post.
In the last 10 minutes, Evans sent a free-kick over the crossbar before Sone Aluko slid in from distance.
Kayden Jackson got in behind on the right and sent a low cross towards Tyreece John-Jules, but the Arsenal loanee couldn’t make contact.
And the hosts continued to press in stoppage time, with Trafford making another smart save to deny Morsy, who looked certain to score.
But Wanderers survived a barrage of pressure in the closing minutes to ensure they would return to the North West with a point.
